New to Little Athletics

New to Little Athletics? You’re in the right place!

Eastern Hills Little Athletics Centre (EHLAC) provides children and families with a fun, supportive environment to enjoy athletics, learn new skills and be part of a great local club.

Little Athletics is all about family, fun and fitness. Athletes have the opportunity to run, jump and throw while developing confidence, improving their personal bests and making new friends along the way.

No previous athletics experience is needed. Whether your child loves running, wants to try something new or has never stepped onto an athletics track before, they are welcome at EHLAC.

Who Can Join?

EHLAC welcomes children across the Little Athletics age groups, including our younger Tiny Tots athletes.

Children compete in age groups based on their year of birth, so they participate alongside children of a similar age.

Not sure which age group your child belongs to? Don’t worry — we can help you work it out before you register.

What Events Will My Child Do?

One of the great things about Little Athletics is the variety. Throughout the season, athletes get the opportunity to participate in different running, jumping and throwing events.

Depending on their age group, these can include:

  • Sprints and middle-distance running
  • Hurdles
  • Long jump
  • High jump
  • Shot put
  • Discus
  • Javelin
  • Relays

You don’t need to know which events your child is good at before joining. They’ll have the opportunity to have a go, learn the correct techniques and discover what they enjoy.

Training & Competition

EHLAC holds regular training sessions and competition days throughout the athletics season.

Training gives athletes the opportunity to learn and practise their skills with coaches before putting them into action at competition.

Our focus isn’t just on winning. Little Athletics encourages athletes to work towards their Personal Best (PB) and celebrate their own improvement throughout the season.

Come & Try

Not sure if Little Athletics is right for your child?

A Come & Try session is a great way to experience EHLAC before committing to the season. Your child can meet other athletes, see how our sessions operate and have a go at athletics events.

There’s no need for your child to already know how to sprint, jump or throw — that’s what we’re here to teach!

COME AND TRY TRAINING DAY 21st October 2026 for tiny tots to U10 from 4.30pm and U11 to U18 from 5.30pm at the Mundaring Arena Oval.

COME AND TRY COMPETETION DAY 31st October 2026 from 8am sharp. Please arrivie at 7.30am for warm up, registration and to ask any questions.

What Happens on Our First Day?

Your first visit can feel a little overwhelming when everything is new, but we’ll help you find your way.

When you arrive, check in with an EHLAC committee member or volunteer and let them know that you’re new. We’ll help point you in the right direction and explain where your child needs to go.

Little Athletics is very much a family-based sport, and parents and carers are an important part of making our competition days run successfully.

You don’t need athletics experience to get involved — there are plenty of simple ways to help.
